Rise and fall of the global warming hype

A daily search was made for the phrases “global warming” or “climate change” or both in all of the 278 English language newspapers worldwide served by pressdiaplay.com. The running seven-day average of these data are plotted in the chart below.
It shows a sudden rise around the time of he Copenhagen meeting in December 2009. Since that high some dramatic changes have occurred. The Copenhagen meeting failed, the climategate scandal broke, errors in the IPCC 2007 Assessment report kept popping up one after another, and the IPCC began backpedaling and retracting one scary claim after another.
These errors and their retractions have apparently silenced the previously very shrill voice of the UN’s climate change body. The almost daily new press releases of climate change calamity has ceased. The number of climate change stories has fallen dramatically and they continue to decline.
These data bode ill for the IPCC. Their position now is actually worse than it looks in this chart because many of the newspaper articles now being counted as global warming stories are not IPCC press releases but criticisms of the IPCC’s 2007 Assessment Report.

The average people will tell you even without looking up the chart that the world they experience has got a lot warmer which they readily define as global warming & they will readily attribute this to human activities.
Even if that is wrong, global warming skeptics have an uphill task to make them believe otherwise. I am repeating much of what I have said before.
1. The average people relate car fumes, pollution, forest destruction, mining activities, transportation, Bhopal & other industrial accidents like the BP Gulf oil leak to global warming.
2. Some of them also relate natural calamities like volcanic eruption, earthquake, flood, bushfire to global warming.
3. The more educated common people readily believe Big Business is behind anti global warming movement.
The bottom line is that its going to be hard for the average people to ignore their lifetime experience, certainly not in this century. If forced to think or act, the average people will say they care for the environment & will err towards protecting it. They see greater risk in not accepting global warming measures.
Am I right in summarizing that warmist skeptic counter argument is that human activities contribute very little to global warming, that natural causes play a far greater role which is beyond human control & that over the centuries, the earth is not getting warmer anyway ?
If so then I would suggest this line of argument has a problem. Is it not more a prediction than stating a historical fact in that the increasing human activity role is being ignored. More importantly once the debate is over mega time span & super natural causes then it become the debate between the scientists on the opposing camps & invariably the warmists scientist will command greater respect because of the average person personal experience & perception. So you are back to where you start !
