THIS POST IS A PRESENTATION AND CRITICAL EVALUATION OF AN ASSOCIATED PRESS ARTICLE {LINKED ABOVE} ON THE THWAITES GLACIER AKA THE DOOMSDAY GLACIER, PUBLIHSED IN JANUARY 2022.

IT PRESENTS THE FRIGHTENING CLIMATE CHANGE ALARM THAT THE THWAITES GLACIER, AKA THE DOOMSDAY GLACIER, IS BREAKING UP AND THAT SCIENTISTS ARE RUSHING DOWN TO ANTARCTICA TO ASSESS THE CLIMATE CHANGE CATASTROPHE THIS IMPLIES UNLESS WE TAKE CLIMATE ACTION.

PART-1: WHAT THE ASSOCIATED PRESS JANUARY 2022 ARTICLE SAYS

Thwaites, Antarctica’s ‘doomsday’ glacier, is breaking up – and scientists are racing to get a closer look
A team of researchers is sailing to Antarctica on a US$50 million mission, which will see the vessel Boaty McBoatface probing under the melting ice mass. The Thwaites glacier – the world’s widest – is being eaten away by global warming, sending sea levels rising. A team of scientists is headed for the massive Thwaites glacier on Thursday. They are sailing to “the place in the world that’s the hardest to get to” so they can better figure out how much and how fast seas will rise because of global warming eating away at Antarctica’s ice. Thirty-two scientists on Thursday are starting a more than two-month mission aboard an American research ship to investigate the crucial area where the massive but melting Thwaites glacier faces the Amundsen Sea and may eventually lose large amounts of ice because of warm water. The Florida-sized glacier has been nicknamed the “doomsday glacier” because of how much ice it has and how much seas could rise if it all melts – more than two feet (65cm) over hundreds of years. Because of its importance, the United States and the United Kingdom are in the midst of a joint US$50 million mission to study Thwaites, the widest glacier in the world by land and sea. Not near any of the continent’s research stations, Thwaites is on Antarctica’s western half, east of the jutting Antarctic Peninsula, which used to be the area scientists worried most about. Thwaites is the main reason we have so large an uncertainty in the projections of future sea level rise and that is because it’s a very remote area, difficult to reach. It is configured in a way so that it’s potentially unstable. And that is why we are worried about this.
Thwaites is putting 45.4 billon tonnes of ice into the water a year. The British Antarctic Survey says the glacier is responsible for 4 per cent of global sea rise, and the conditions leading to it to lose more ice are accelerating. To study climate change, scientists head to the ‘end of the world. Thwaites appears to be collapsing in three ways. Melting from below by ocean water. The land part of the glacier “is losing its grip” to the place it attaches to the seabed, so a large chunk can come off into the ocean and later melt
The glacier’s ice shelf is breaking into hundreds of fractures like a damaged car windscreen. This is what scientists fear will be the most troublesome with six-mile (10km) long cracks forming in just one year. No one has stepped foot on the key ice-water interface at Thwaites before. In 2019, scientists explored the area from a ship using a robotic ship but never went ashore. Scientists will use two robot ships, the Ran which was used in 2019 and the more agile Boaty McBoatface, the crowdsource named drone that could go further under the area of Thwaites that protrudes over the ocean and get under Thwaites. The ship-bound scientists will be measuring water temperature, the sea floor and ice thickness. They will look at cracks in the ice, how the ice is structured and tag seals on islands off the glacier. Thwaites “looks different from other ice shelves. It almost looks like a jumble of icebergs that have been pressed together. So it is increasingly clear that this is not a solid piece of ice like the other ice shelves are, nice smooth solid ice. This is a jagged and scarred glacier.

CRITICAL COMMENTARY

THIS ALARMING ARTICLE ABOUT THE IMPACT OF GLOBAL WARMING ON THE THWAITES GLACIER IS PRESENTED TO MOTIVATE US TO GIVE UP FOSSIL FUELS AS A MEANS OF SURVIVAL FOR HUMANKIND AND FOR THE SURVIVAL OF THE PLANET ITSELF.

IN THIS CONTEXT WE NOTE AS FOLLOWS.

ITEM#1: THE EEMIAN INTERGLACIAL: MORE THAN 130,000 YEARS AGO, LONG BEFORE HUMANS STARTED BURNING FOSSIL FUELS, AND LONG BEFORE THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION, IN THE PREVIOUS INTERGLACIAL CALLED THE “EEMIAN”, THERE WERE, AS THERE ARE IN THE HOLOCENE, MULTIPLE NATURAL GLOBAL WARMING CYCLES AT CENTENNAL AND MILLENNIAL TIME SCALES. ONE OF THESE WARMING CYCLE WAS INTENSE WITH TEMPERATURES 5C WARMER THAN IN THE CURRENT WARMING CYCLE OF THE HOLOCENE WHICH SCIENTISTS HAVE DECIDED IS HUMAN CAUSED BECAUSE IT CAME AFTER THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION. ANYWAY, BACK IN THE EEMIAN, THIS INTENSE WARMING CYCLE OF THAT INTERGLACIAL HAD CAUSED THE WHOLE OF THE WAIS {WEST ANTARCTIC ICE SHEET} TO DISINTEGRATE AND COLLAPSE AND RAISE SEA LEVELS BY SEVERAL METERS.

THUS WHAT HAD HAPPENED NATURALLY WAY BEFORE THE INDUSTRIAL ECONOMY SERVED AS A MODEL FOR CLIMATE SCIENTISTS TO DESCRIBE WHAT CAN BE CAUSED BY THE INDUSTRIAL ECONOMY THAT NATURE CANNOT DO. THEIR FUNDAMENTAL ASSUMPTION INTHEIR UNDERSTANDING OF THE CURRENT WARMING CYCLE OF THE HOLOCENE IS THAT IT IS WAY TO INTENSE TO BE NATURAL AND THAT IT CAME IN THE HEELS OF THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION SO THEREFORE IT MUST BE HUMAN CAUSED BY WAY OF THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION.

YET THEIR FAILED DEPENDENCE OF THE HISTORICAL ICE MELT DEVASTATION OF HE EEMIAN AS A MODEL OF WHAT COULD HAPPEN IN THE CURRENT WARMING CYCLE OF THE HOLOCENE EXPOSES THE WEAKNESS OF THEIR HUMAN CAUSATION HYPOTHESIS.

AN EVEN MORE EGREGIOUS WEAKNESS IN THEIR THEORY IS THE REPEATED AND REPEATEDLY FAILED ANTICIPATION OF THE IMMINENT DESTRUCTION OF SELECTED POLAR ICE FORMATIONS. ON WHAT BASIS DO THESE PEOPLE STILL HAVE THE CREDIBILITY TO DEMAND AN OVERHAUL OF THE WORLD’S ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE AT COSTS EXCEEDING 30 TRILLION USD IN ORDER FOR THE HUMANS “TO SAVE THE PLANET”?????

MORE ABOUT SAVING THE PLANET IN THIS RELATED POST: LINK: https://tambonthongchai.com/2020/03/30/the-humans-must-save-the-planet/ WHERE WE NOTE THAT

  1. The crust of the planet where we live is an insignificant portion of the planet.
  2. Life on earth is an insignificant portion of the crust of the planet.
  3. Humans are an insignificant portion of life on earth.

CLIMATE SCIENCE IS THE RESURRECTION OF THE UNABOMBER
